1961: Up-and-coming grocery manager Peter Stephens, 24, escorted bookkeeping clerk Margaret Delse, 22, to a play, afterwards taking her to get an ice cream and listening politely to her impressions of the drama they had just seen, finally driving her home and walking her to her front door around 11pm, whereupon they exchanged a polite handshake, concluding their first and only date.
Comments:
It’s amazing to think that by November of 1963, Mr. Stephens would go on to play Herbert the Butler at Stoke-on-Trent’s Victoria Theater premier of Mr. Whatnot, and that Ms. Delse would be fully promoted to bookkeeper by that same month in 1993.
